Creating Wellness: Unit 8 Blog: Loving Kindness and Meeting Aesclepius

After going back and reviewing some of the exercises that we have done in this class over the past several weeks, I looked at both visualization exercises and meditation exercises. I feel that two of the most beneficial exercises in this class have been "Loving Kindness" and "Meeting Aesclepius".

I will continue to use the loving kindness exercises to foster the traits I need to move from one level of consciousness to another. The loving kindness exercise has taught me to focus on many things, be they negative or positive, and change my heart so that it always reflects an attitude of loving kindness and compassion, no matter who I am dealing with or what type of situation I may be in at the time. The world would be a better place right off the bat, if we would begin by doing this simple exercise and changing and softening our hearts towards one another.

Meeting Aesclepius was probably my overall favorite exercise. I have done exercises like this in the past while doing Reiki attunement and others from long ago have spoken through the practioner and given me advice and comfort. This might sound strange to those who do not practice this, and it felt a little strange even to me the first time it happened. But as I learned to open my mind and my heart, it felt right and it is now and important part of my psychological and spiritual flourishing.  I will continue to use this exercise as well to learn from those who are wise, to continue to learn myself, so that I may be a light being and a healer to those who are in need.

  1. Hi Kris,

I find myself going back time and again and using the loving-kindness exercise to soften and change my heart, also. The man that I am involved with has this type of heart and it always amazes me. He is just that way naturally; which has really helped me to heal my heart and open it more.

I find that I need some more work with the meeting Aesclepius exercise. But, I do agree that there are times while doing these exercise that everything just feels completely right.

  2. Hi Kris,

It doesn't surprise me that we chose the same two exercises as we seem to think alike. I think we could all use a reminder to exude loving kindness and that exercise really has a positive effect for me as well. Meeting Asclepius surprised me greatly. Since I chose the Dalai Lama who portrays for me the epitome of wisdom and loving kindness, I feel now that I have a teacher that I can access whenever I choose. I will continue to use these two as well and enjoy the "rightness".

  3. Kris,

Great blog entry this week, ma'am. It seems like you really got a lot out of both of these practices. I ended up choosing meditation practices and the subtle mind practice. While I liked the Loving Kindness practice I really didn't get out of it what a lot of others seemed to. I wonder if it's because of my aggresive nature? Hmmm...

    Thanks,

  4. Kris,
I really enjoyed reading your blog about the Loving Kindness exercise. I really enjoyed the Loving Kindness exercise also because it does focus on how we should treat others and ourselves. I did however chose the meditation exercise and the visualization exercise. The visualization exercise really came to me because I was able to visualize all the important memories of my family and the happy things that I have in my life.
I think it is important for everyone to open their hearts and their minds and to realize what they have right there in their own home! :)

  5. Kris,
You have a wonderful outlook in regards to what you've gained from these practices. It's been more than challenging for me to receive some of the benefits that I notice you and a few others receiving. Though these exercises should be able to help someone who is as busy and stressed as I, but this hasen't been the case. I've gone for a Reike attunement once and in reading your post, I was reminded that I should try to go again soon, because it really did help. I wish I would have thought to go before or even sometime during this term. If I had, I think I'd be a lot more receptive to the exercises of this course. So thanks for sharing that information.

  6. Hi Kris,

I, too, like the loving kindness exercise. I find that, as my meditation primarily rests on prayer each day, I don't find the time to sort out each one of our exercises and practice them. But, I see how we can practice the loving kindness all the time. We get what we put out, and, I really believe that practicing loving kindness is something that we should be doing for everyone anyway.

    Cheers!
